Side Hustle of the Week
Unless you are part of the 1%, you likely have some kind of side hustle. It can be anything from selling art, to developing websites for small businesses in your free time. This weekly series is to give you an idea of what to do to make you a little extra money and what the power of that extra side cash can be.Side Hustle of the Week: Selling digital products
What knowledge do you have? Anything can be sold online today. I run an Etsy shop that handles all the logistics for my digital prints. The best part about this is they are renewable, there is no shipping and every listing you have costs less than a dollar per month to list. Marketing these effectively can be a great passive income generator. However, this is only one example. Here are three easy and popular options for making a little extra cash with digital products.
E-Books
“I could never write a book”. Why not? What is the one thing that you are just enough of an expert on that your friends come to you for advice on or solicit your services for? Hair and makeup? Taking photos for them? Coaching for a sport? The key phrase here is “expert enough”. Nick Loper takes the credit for this one. In his book The Side Hustle he talks about this as the 6th framework for generating business. Get your start with a 10 page ebook and sell it for $4 on Amazon. You’re an author now!
2. Teaching a class
The same idea applies here. Instead of writing about it, teach people how to do it via Masterclass or Skillshare. Knowledge is available at the click of a button. Find a good environment to record your teachings, make a short class on them from your desk and sell the classes on the platform of your choosing.
3. Designs
Do you have a knack for building things? A friend of mine runs his own 3D Printing Company and sells their designs on their website for $1. They do not have to do anything for these when they are ordered since the designs are already made. Pay $1 and the design is instantly transferred to the computer. Printerior Designs uses their recycled plastic designs to create sustainable products and uses the design side of their business to generate a passive stream of income. Don’t have the platform to launch them? Reach out to others in the same space as the design you are trying to sell and work out a deal. You use their traffic to boost your product enough to where you can create your own platform. Launching a product has also never been easier. With TikTok rising in popularity every day, a daily post can be enough to generate traffic to boost your product’s popularity.
